AIThis might be one of the most chilling AI warnings that actually aged well.
Years ago, Stephen Hawking said that once humans create full artificial intelligence, it would start redesigning itself faster and faster. Humans, limited by slow biological evolution, wouldn’t be able to keep up and would eventually be surpassed.
Back then, most people brushed it off as science fiction. Now we’re watching AI systems improve themselves, use other AI to train better models, and accelerate their own progress.
What really hits is who said it. A scientist who spent his life thinking about black holes and the universe looked at AI and said this could be the thing that ends us. Not asteroids. Not climate change. Not nuclear war.
And the irony is hard to miss. He used a robotic voice while warning us about artificial intelligence.
Some people heard these warnings years ago. Most are only starting to listen now.
