EDNew Labour Laws Explained — Read Carefully
India has officially implemented the new labour codes, and these rules directly affect your salary, working hours, benefits, and gratuity.
Here’s a simple breakdown:
1️⃣ 29 old laws merged into 4 new labour codes
Everything is simpler now — one registration, one licence, one return.
It reduces confusion and makes compliance transparent.
2️⃣ Appointment letter is now mandatory
Every employee must receive a written appointment letter.
No more verbal promises or unclear job roles.
3️⃣ Working hours updated
You can work 8–12 hours per day,
but total weekly hours cannot exceed 48 hours.
4️⃣ Overtime = Double Pay
If you work beyond your scheduled hours,
you must be paid at twice your normal wage.
Every extra hour now means double payment.
5️⃣ National Floor Wage introduced
There will be a minimum wage level across India.
No state can set wages below this limit.
6️⃣ Women empowerment at work
• Equal pay is mandatory
• Women can work night shifts with consent + proper safety
• Stronger protections in workplaces
7️⃣ Gratuity update (important!)
• Fixed-term employees can get gratuity after just 1 year of service
• They must be treated the same as permanent employees
• With the new rule that basic salary must be at least 50% of CTC, your gratuity amount may increase.
8️⃣ Stronger safety rules
Especially in hazardous industries,
annual health check-ups are now compulsory for workers.
