My "easy pace" wasn't easy. Once I slowed down, my h — 10 things I stopped doing to drop my 5K from 23:40 to 19:32 ⭐️ 1. Running every run too fast 💨 My “easy pace” wasn’t easy. Once I slowed down, my hard sessions actually started working. Try to avoid running in the grey zone. 2. Winging my training Random workouts here and there helped for a while but a simple weekly structure was what really helped get that sub 20 ✅ 3. Avoiding threshold sessions 🙅🏼‍♀️ I only did short, fast reps and then wondered why race pace felt impossible. Threshold = controlled speed = GAME CHANGER! 4. Running on empty Carbs before sessions made every workout feel smoother and faster. Fuelling properly made one of the biggest differences 🍌 5. Copying other people’s training 👎🏼 Their mileage, their paces, their sessions… none of it worked for me. You have to learn what works for you, your body and your lifestyle. 6. Ignoring strength training… Weak hips + glutes = slow race legs. Strength training made me hold form longer and have that extra power 💨💨 7. Treating each session like a test 🙈 I stopped trying to “prove” my fitness every run and started building it instead. Set yourself a date to go for a PB and stick to it. 8. Skipping warm-ups!! Cold legs + speed = awful mechanics. Warm-ups made my paces feel more controlled. I did a 5K warm up before my 5K PB! 9. Panicking after a bad run 🏃🏼‍♀️ Progress isn’t linear. One off day doesn’t cancel a good training block. 10. Expecting faster times without better recovery 🛏️ Sleep, rest days, and consistency made more difference than any workout.
