I studied applied mathematics and this is the method I used all the time, which subject do you want next? 👇🏽 Topic and Concepts 📖 Getting familiar with a new topic is crucial, never just start with questions. Get that initial understanding, learn the new key words and familiarise yourself with the new formulas. Formula Sheet 🗒️ Take note of all the useful formulas for the new topic. This makes you more efficient when looking for which one to use, but also helps with remembering them when the time for exams comes. New Problems: 🙌 When you encounter a problem you haven’t seen before, take a note of it and use it as a reference for when you see a similar problem later on. Especially do this for problems that you find are hard. Practice Questions: 📝 Then go ahead, now you’re ready to start practicing all the questions surrounding the topic. Good luck! On the other hand, the true “learning masters” can ace any kind of exam because they know how to study effectively. That’s the major difference 🔥 I used to be the worst procrastinator in the world. I would start playing games at 4 PM and continue until 4 AM, sitting alone in a completely dark room. However, after applying the study methods I’m about to share, I fell in love with learning and gradually started improving my grades. Today, I’m studying at New York University, one of the top universities in the world, majoring in both Computer Science and Applied Mathematics, and I’m acing all my exams. During my first term of my undergraduate mathematics degree, I took subjects in Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics and Statistics. Let’s break the books down 👇 📕 ‘Calculus’ This introduces students to several fundamental topics of mathematics. Calculus is an essential tool in many areas of mathematics. This book covers things such as the formal definition of a derivative, functions and their inverses, differential techniques, integration and much more. 📗’How to Think Like a Mathematician’ Fun fact, I was lectured by the author of this book @kevinhouston4170 — fantastic lecturer and fantastic book. This book compliments a first term module in undergraduate mathematics called Number Systems. The book not only covers this topic but helps you unlock the meaning of definitions, theorems and proofs, solve problems, and writing mathematics like a true mathematician. 📘 ‘A Modern Introduction to Probability and Statistics’ A mathematics degree wouldn’t be complete without learning about probability and statistics. This book provides you with everything you need to know to get started. It was on the reading list for my first year module on probability and statistics. 📙 ‘Introduction to Geometry’ This book covers the most fundamental laws in mathematics: Euclid’s postulates (plus much more!). Although geometry isn’t necessarily a ‘prerequisite’ to an undergraduate degree, I took a module similar to this in my first term and it really helped throughout the remainder of my degree. It’s also a pretty fun subject! 🤔 Who are these books aimed at? These books assume you’ve done mathematics at A-Level and are wanting to learn what an undergraduate mathematics degree entails. The most common ones are sine, cosine, and tangent, which are defined using right triangles. For example, sine measures the ratio of the side opposite an angle to the hypotenuse, while cosine measures the ratio of the adjacent side to the hypotenuse. These functions are not limited to triangles; they are used to describe patterns of waves, oscillations, and circular motion. Because they repeat values at regular intervals, they are called periodic functions, and they play a key role in both pure and applied mathematics, from physics and engineering to signal processing and computer graphics. The unit circle provides a more general and powerful way of understanding trigonometric functions. It is a circle with radius 1 centered at the origin of a coordinate plane. By placing an angle in standard position (starting from the positive x-axis), the coordinates of the point where the angle intersects the circle correspond to the values of cosine and sine. Specifically, the x-coordinate is the cosine of the angle, and the y-coordinate is the sine of the angle.
