Completed between 2009 and 2013 in Tehran, the house explores the idea of the border between inside and outside. Instead of treating the façade as a fixed line, the architects transformed it into a flexible and inhabitable layer. Rotating volumes create a dynamic façade that adapts to different needs, shifting between open and enclosed spaces. By turning this architectural “border” into a three-dimensional and porous element, the design softens the dense urban fabric while revealing hidden lifestyles within the home. In the field of architecture, the border is located between the inside and outside of the building, and in the social sphere, it separates the informal lifestyle from the formal culture, and it is mostly linear, specific, and critical. Focusing on this dual function and its effects on the urban landscape, in this project, we tried to transform the border into achangeable and adaptable space so that the three-dimensional and porous state of the façade reduces the feeling of compactness of the urban fabric. We also tried to make this thick border inhabitable by expanding the inner and outer boundaries, so that we could extract, display, and recognize the hidden lifestyles. . . This residence is located in a pomegranate garden in the historic Iranian city of Kerman (reigned 324-241 CE). Initially, we preserved the garden's thatched walls, while constructing new walls behind them. This allowed us to maintain the existing texture of the space and redefine its boundaries with alleys, providing a nostalgic touch to passersby and evoking old memories. By creating gaps in the walls and installing glass doors, we established an entrance to the garden. This aims to share the garden's assets, such as the ancient sycamore tree and the waterway that reaches the property's farmland, with neighbors and passersby. Upon entering, our goal was to connect the courtyard with the house. We achieved this through a sunken courtyard, which provides cool shade during long, hot days. Within this setting, we find a building that captures part of the sky, thanks to two deep slits we call "sky slits" that block the flow of air and wind, aiding in interior air conditioning. By utilizing sunlight, shadows, and architectural elements, the building takes on a different appearance throughout the day. Once inside, we have the option to remain in the house or proceed to the rear garden. Conceptually, the house functions as a pavilion, drawing inspiration from the architectural heritage of this climate and culture.
