OLIt really can be this simple. Clean panels before you touch them with sandpaper. Not only will it sand easier you’ll use less paper doing so. Glass cleaner and 99% alcohol is cheap and works excellent to pre clean before prep.

DAIn pursuit of a perfectly flat panel ..this is the system that worked well for me.
Starting with 400-grit wet or dry sandpaper on a 16-inch block, I apply guide coat over the high-build primer and sand evenly to expose low areas. Once sanding begins to cut through to the epoxy primer, that’s the stopping point. At that stage, I’ll either reapply high-build primer or address deeper lows using polyester finishing putty (Icing).
After curing and leveling, the process is repeated with another guide coat and sanding session.. ideally the final step before paint. In this case, I missed a significant spot on the rear quarter and had to redo the process. 😔
Precision takes time, and every pass gets the surface closer to perfect.
