Huge congratulations to Cameron Young on winning the 2026 The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass 👏
Cam has been incredibly impressive, and his golf swing is just as remarkable. One thing he does exceptionally well is get his transition order absolutely perfect.
Using Sportsbox 3D, we can measure any swing and see how the transition works. Cam is known for that slight pause at the top of his backswing. It’s partly his style — but it also helps him sequence the downswing perfectly:
Pelvis → Chest → Arms → Club
This order is what generates his tremendous power and consistency, and watching it in action is a masterclass in swing mechanics.
💡 Try this drill:
Swing to the top and pause… then hit. Even a simple pause at the top can force your speed to come from the ground up, helping you sequence your downswing more effectively.

Cam Young’s swing has a very unique structure—and that structure creates an incredibly repeatable pattern under pressure.
Notice how he sets the club early with width in the takeaway, keeping the club slightly outside his hands. From there, his arms work up while his body stays centered, creating a powerful but organized top position. The key is how his lead arm stays structured while the club stays slightly laid off, allowing him to shallow the club naturally in transition.
From the top, Cam shifts pressure into his lead side and rotates hard through impact, delivering the club with speed, compression, and a square face. The result: elite ball striking and complete control of his start lines.
Great swings aren’t random — they’re built on repeatable patterns and structure.

PAIs Cam Young’s pause at the top right for you?
First off, I actually think pausing at the top can be a great drill. It helps you feel a full shoulder turn and hip turn, and it also lets you sense your weight fully loaded into your trail side.
Another big benefit is that it encourages the correct first move in transition re-centering toward the lead side instead of just ripping the hands down too quickly.
Keep in mind, Cam has been doing this for years. Don’t expect it to feel natural on your first try. Use it as a drill at first, and if it works for you, it might eventually become part of your gamer swing.
It seems to work pretty well for him.
