NUDrawing blood from a PICC line — step by step (Part 1).
This demo walks through how to prepare supplies, maintain aseptic technique, check for patency, and collect ordered tubes safely.
A few small reminders that make a big difference:
• scrub the hub well and let it dry
• never introduce air into the line
• confirm patency before collecting
• keep connections steady so nothing disconnects
• gently invert tubes — don’t shake them
This is skills-lab style education, so always follow your facility’s policy and clinical educator guidance.

The term “Central Line” is used because it refers to a line (catheter) that is inserted into a central vein — one of the large veins close to the heart.
It’s a biggest size chemo port as i was on aggressive treatment..! Oligometasatic stage 4 ..! Price mat poochna as it was an expensive affair🤣🤣

Total parenteral nutrition (TPN) contains all the things I need to stay alive. My central line administers all my nutrition directly through my heart. I also take my medications and get my hydration through my central line as well. This is a result of my chronic ilnesses and, my GI tract being useless. If you wanna know more about TPN, just ask 🩵

KY🌂Transitions all over the place lately! ☂️
This Reel, in & out of hospital and we’re even transitioning into a new routine!
Bella’s bloodwork has been great and so she can come off more oral medications. And no more daily IV meds either! 🎉
Next Friday will hopefully be Bella’s last IV med and from there we discuss removing her central line! 🫢 This is a huge step you guys. If you recall, Bella’s relied on a CVC(permanent IV access) her entire life to survive! Can you imagine the transition to not needing it anymore!? I’m not sure my brain can compute that yet but I’m looking forward to it!
Oh and one more thing… Our boys are back in Toronto… tonight! Eeee! 🎉 Transitioning back to a family of 4 together again. 😌

STthe realities of living with a chronic illness and also being a nurse, I clocked off at 7:30am morning after 12 hours of looking after our gorgeous premature babies and went straight to get my routine TPN bloods taken from my central line > then home > attach to TPN and sleep majority of the day.
routine blood tests on tpn matter because your nutrition goes straight into your bloodstream so if anything’s off it can hit fast. the bloods check your body’s staying balanced and coping like salts and hydration, liver and kidneys, blood sugar, infection signs, plus vitamins and trace elements so your team can tweak your tpn early and keep you safe before you feel gross

LYThings that needed fixing this week:
1. The central line to my heart EXPLODED
2. My blood counts hit transfusion/critical levels
3. Had an EEG to evaluate seizures I get from anesthesia
4. Surgery to place a new central line
5. Ongoing nerve pain/damage
6. Ongoing gastric and intestinal dysfunction
7. Surgery incisions splitting open
8. Bone pain from severe anemia
9. Crazy lung/chest pain from surgery
10. Plus every other symptom I experience from my genetic disorder, a multi-system, progressive, and often devastating condition.
I would very much like a cure, a treatment, prayers, good vibes, and a community to combat cEDS. I needed a lot of fixing this week. Two things can be true at once:
Disabled people are inherently valuable, equal, impressive, ambitious, talented, hard-working, capable AND can still hope for a cure, better treatments, remission or recovery.
Wishing for more stability or less suffering in your life doesn’t make you ableist.
