Nidhi Bhasin is an Indian social-impact leader known for using technology to improve the lives of underserved communities. She currently serves as the CEO of Digital Green Trust, a nonprofit that helps small and marginal farmers adopt sustainable farming practices through digital tools and training. With over 25 years of experience in social development and nonprofit leadership, Bhasin has worked extensively in areas such as digital inclusion, agriculture, gender equality, and community development. Before joining Digital Green Trust, she was the CEO of NASSCOM Foundation, where she promoted the “TechForGood” movement and helped bridge the digital divide by expanding digital literacy and skill-building programs across India. During her career, she has led initiatives that trained and empowered millions of people—especially women and rural communities—through digital education, entrepreneurship support, and access to technology. For this week’s Principal’s Highlight, we proudly recognize Daejahnae Connolly, a well-rounded and driven student whose academic excellence, leadership and service make a meaningful impact at Immaculate Conception High School. Daejahnae maintains an outstanding GPA of 3.93 and studies Geography, Physics, Art, Spanish and Literature, alongside Mathematics, English A and Information Technology. An Honour Student since Grade 7 with perfect attendance, she placed first in Geography, Literature and English Language in Grade 10, third in Religious Education, and received the Jhenae and Kimberly Memorial Grant, an art-based special award. Beyond the classroom, Daejahnae is a Sub-Prefect, Vice President of the Architecture and Interior Design Club, Secretary of the Philosophy Club, and an active member of the Art Club, Society of Mathematics, School Challenge Quiz Team and Yearbook Committee, where she serves as a section editor, interviewer and photographer. She also participates in sign language performances and assists with the design of the ICHS app as part of the Social Media Team. Outside of school, Daejahnae is deeply involved in youth advocacy and community development. She is Co-Founder and President of The Solitude Theory, Co-Founder and Ambassador of the international non-profit G4GSittingInAStall, and a Council Member of the Jamaica Youth Advocacy Network. She is currently collaborating with UNICEF Jamaica and was invited to attend their Annual Conference for Marginalized Children as a Chairperson. An entrepreneur and creative, she owns the jewelry brand Begonia, is preparing to publish a poetry book, holds certificates in public speaking, animation and graphic design, tutors with the Tutoring Society, volunteers at her parish library, and recently began her first season playing lacrosse. Here are 5 grant programs that are commonly used to support land acquisition, site development, and affordable housing projects: 1️⃣ Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Federal funds given to cities and counties to buy land, redevelop blighted areas, and support affordable housing projects. 2️⃣ HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) Used by states and local governments to acquire land and develop affordable housing before construction begins. 3️⃣ USDA Rural Development Grants Supports land, housing, and infrastructure projects in rural areas — one of the most overlooked opportunities. 4️⃣ State Housing Trust Funds Many states have housing trust funds that help with land acquisition and development tied to affordable housing. 5️⃣ American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Funds Cities and counties are still using ARPA funds for land acquisition, housing supply, and redevelopment projects. Important to understand: These grants don’t usually go directly to individuals. They go to projects, partnerships, and properly structured deals. That’s why land ownership + strategy matters. Security is about how safe you feel when you leave your home in the morning… and how confident you are that your children can grow up without fear. As Prime Minister, I approach national security in a practical way. Yes, we confront crime directly and firmly. But security is also about strengthening communities, building leadership, and giving citizens the support they need to stand on their own. Removing gangs is necessary. But after that is done, we must help communities rebuild. People must feel empowered to take charge of their streets, their neighbourhoods, and their future. That is why we implemented the Zones of Special Operations (ZOSO). These zones were introduced in areas facing serious violence and gang control. Alongside security operations, we invested in social programmes, education support, and community development. This work requires consistency and commitment. Peace is built step by step, through partnership, leadership, and steady effort.

Theaster Gates was born on August 28, 1973, in Chicago, Illinois, where he grew up in a working-class family on the West Side. He was the youngest of nine children and the only son. He transforms discarded materials from urban environments into sculptures and installations that convey powerful social messages. Gates is a leading figure in social practice art, which involves collaborating with communities to create positive change. His projects often involve renovating abandoned buildings into cultural centers, fostering community engagement and social progress. Gates founded the Rebuild Foundation, a non-profit organization that manages several projects in Chicago, including the Stony Island Arts Bank, Black Cinema House, and Dorchester Art and Housing Collaborative.
