Food Justice programs can and should be included in youth programs that don’t have food as an integral part of their programming design. There are several ways leaders can include elements of food justice programming alongside their primary mission and goals. As nutrition is the foundation for almost everything there is a justification for including this type of support and programming regardless of the organization type and mission. Week 13 of Ms. Tashia's @setthetablefood is in the books; since Christmas Eve of last year over 5000lbs of fresh produce delivered to the community for FREE. Over 800 people fed the best food: mothers, children, elders, youth, city of Atlanta firefighters, public works and watershed employees, our friends from the @atpromiseatl, and everybody else who pulled up. It's been real. Sadly it's come to an end. Thank you to @blackfoodjustice for funding this response to federal cuts in the SNAP program. Thanks to @westgeorgiafarmerscoop for providing us with the beautiful collard greens, kale, broccoli, zucchini, beets, sweet potatoes, cabbage and more grown with black farmer's love. Thank you to @historic_westside_gardens and @westsidefuturefund for providing the space and additional funds to keep this thing going the past couple weeks. Thanks to our neighbors, friends, family, and volunteers for showing up and supporting this little movement in our corner of the city. Westside ATL stand up, we take care of our own; and as my comrade Ki from @splcenter prepares to launch the "Be Healthy, Westside!" initiative, stay tuned for more and greater activations this Spring and Summer.
