She stood there, fearless, holding the protest together when things felt directionless. We, foreign medical graduates, are ready to forgo our stipend just to complete our mandatory 3 months of PSM posting. We’ve done our part. We’ve waited patiently. But the National Medical Commission still hasn’t sent the required confirmation email to Delhi Medical Council. It’s been more than a week. Some Intern have been waiting since February. Careers are on hold. Futures are uncertain. And yet, silence. Today’s protest may have felt uneventful from the outside… But for me, it meant everything. I’ve been called “just an FMG” more times than I can count. People questioned my brains, my training, my worth—sometimes directly, sometimes through silence, sometimes through that look. As if my hard work somehow mattered less because I studied outside India. What most people didn’t see were the nights of self-doubt. The pressure of proving myself again and again. The fear that no matter how much I studied, the label would always come before my name. Being an FMG means you work twice as hard to be taken half as seriously. It means carrying a quiet burden—to not fail, because failure isn’t “just failure”… it becomes a stereotype. Clearing FMGE in my first attempt wasn’t just an exam result. It was relief. It was validation I never asked for, but deeply needed. It was the first time I allowed myself to breathe. And then clearing NEET PG in my first attempt—that joy was something else entirely. Not loud. Not boastful. Just a deep, calm happiness that said: “You were always capable. You always belonged.” Today, I stand here as a 3rd-year Psychiatry postgraduate in a Government Medical College— a place I once wondered if I would ever belong to. Not because the journey was easy, but because I refused to let doubt decide my limits. I didn’t do this to prove anyone wrong. I did this to prove myself right. To every FMG reading this— your journey is real. Your struggles are valid. Your success will speak, even when you stay silent. Proud to be an FMG. Proud of how far I’ve come. I’m so disappointed and disgusted the system !! @ a medico THAT is the reason why being a first generation doctor feels like a curse MBBS in India is either only for the elite who come from a family of doctors Now please don’t come at me with AIIMS ka fees to 1k per year hai and gmcs ka bhi 10k ke andr rehta hai Bc the supply deman graph is skewed in favour of outliers which means the number of seats allocated are disproportionately less as compared to d to our population The competition is unfair and in favour of the privileged I have completed my medicine degree from a 200 year old renowned university having 3 noble laureate as their alumni including the Pavlovs dog experiments scientist Pavlov It took me 2.5lakh per year tuition fee while I was supposed to pay nearly 10 lakh per year here in India for a private collage and I fall under general category Don’t mind me but this is the point at which tooting my horn seems like a good thing I’ve been through Russia-Ukraine War and cleared fmge in first go with 208/300 (pass rate being 20%, highest at the time) After going through all this It feels completely and utterly unfair to bootlick and and being walked over like you don’t matter at all with no fault of your own I love medicine but I hate the system I quit For all those who are feeling dejected by this notice I’m so sorry you have to keep going through something like this time and again I hope you get what you deserve and more #fmge #fmg #doctorsofinstagram
