VIOkay let me explain.. when I was diagnosed with GDM I was devastated. I cried and cried, I was scared for my baby, my pregnancy, I had major cravings which I couldn’t fulfil and it was a really HARD TIME and it was not fun pricking myself multiple times a day
BUT it forced me to eat better and to be active till the very day before delivery. I was doing 9000-10,000 steps a day at 9 months pregnant
If I didn’t have GDM, I don’t know if I would have had a successful natural delivery like I did and I probably wouldn’t have felt guilty for not moving my body. I had to walk 10-15 minutes or 2-3 flights of stairs after every single meal to maintain my sugar
And the number one thing I’m thankful for is everything I learned about nutrition. Because of GDM I learned so so much about food, especially the order I eat things in. I was given charts, met with a private dietician, endocrinologist and took a class about food. I understood grams of protein to carbs to fibre ratio. I gained knowledge about how every single type of food affects our blood sugar so that even after pregnancy I can still improve my eating habits in a scientifically proven way. I also learned about the timing of meals and when’s the best time to eat certain sugars
I now know I am prone to higher sugars and need to be careful
Most importantly, I can take this knowledge to help myself for now and in the future and help others too
So if you are going through it right now just know you’ll come out stronger on the other side of it
