Last one is probably my personal favorite 🙌😉 “Knowledge is a treasure, but practice is the key to it.” — Lao Tzu Game development is not easy, but with great creators like these it makes it much easier. And that's also why I love this industry so much. Looking back at my own journey, it were creators like these who helped me an awful lot! Especially creators like ThinMatrix, The Cherno, Sebastian Lague, Games from Scratch and many more (unfortunately some not being active anymore..). It's because of these people, sharing their knowledge for free, making many journeys possible. So, they deserve all the credit and appraisal. 😇 It's also because of these people I am doing what I do for years as well. Trying to share my enthusiasm for programming and making games. Sharing my journey. And hopefully helping some of you. Devlog 4: Clean code doesn’t always equal good movement. 🛠️ In game development, there is a massive gap between a system that works and one that actually feels right (Game Feel). Even if your Character Controller script in Unity is perfectly structured in C#, the movement can still feel stiff. For my project, Sawmill Simulator, I’m focusing on these three pillars of polish to increase player retention: Input Smoothing for more natural responsiveness. Acceleration and Deceleration to give the character physical weight. Soft Camera Motion to prevent jarring movements and maintain immersion. Getting this "feel" right is what separates a functional indie game from a great one. Are you focusing on the code logic or the player's feel first? Exactly a year ago I started working on my dream game. It had many iterations and development was on and off and the project has been rebuilt from scratch a couple times until I landed on the current art style (Which also already saw its first iteration as a lot of people gave feedback on visibility). I was never happy with the progress to share with the outside world, it was never perfect, it was always one feature, one bug fix, one art style iteration away from sharing with the outside world for months. I decided at the end of 2025 I would share my journey no matter what. Initial feedback was harsh but fair, because of this I could improve my game in ways I couldn’t have done so by myself. It’s easy to get lost in your project and get creator blindness. Sharing my game development journey was met with a lot of support and positive reactions, it made me overcome my perfectionism paralysis. It’s okay to share imperfect features, it’s okay if there is a bug in the background and criticism does not exist to bully you, but to help you grow. Thanks for all the support in this journey. I’m curious how this year of development goes. This time not solo, but with a community. #thehelyanaproject #indiedev #gamedev #gamedevelopment # gamedesign
