HIPeople often ask what it would take to really rebuild Hip Hop culture in the Bay Area.
The answer isn’t complicated.
It’s just rarely funded.
Right now Hip Hop For The Future is preparing for a year that includes:
• Flow Lounge every Wednesday — a community cypher and writing contest where artists hone their skills
• Eight public health events with Pregnancy Family Village beginning next month — each booking MCs, DJs, and graffiti artists working directly with families and kids
• Dozens of Hip Hop education workshops in schools
• 52 episodes of Hip Hop For The People Radio playing local Bay Area Hip Hop
That’s a lot of culture infrastructure.
But here’s the part most people miss:
If just 8% more of our newsletter readers donated monthly, we could expand Flow Lounge to San Francisco and San Jose and more than triple the work we’re doing.
More artists paid.
More youth reached.
More spaces where Hip Hop belongs to the community again.
