MEA new installation titled “Longing, Grief, and Spirituality: Art Since 1980” is open. Watch along as artist Mel Chin speaks about his monumental work "Our Strange Flower of Democracy," 2005.
“Our Strange Flower of Democracy” is based on the form of a “daisy cutter” bomb, first used by the American military forces in Vietnam. The bombs’ pressure sensors were located at the end of the long lower arm, so it would detonate when the arm touched the ground. The trigger of Chin’s bamboo version is positioned just before impact.

MIMenil Collection is located in the Houston Museum District. This unique property showcase the private collection of John and Dominique De Menil.
After a museum stroll, stop by Menil Bistro for some delicious food, dessert and afternoon tea.
There is also an outdoor space displaying this huge art installation, along with a picnic space, and meditation classes.
This is one of the underrated must visit places when you're in Houston.

MA"Tacita Dean: Blind Folly" at the @menilcollection is the artist’s first major museum survey in the United States. The exhibition, organized in close collaboration with Dean, spotlights her career-defining approach to creating art through unmediated and chance-based drawing processes across a variety of mediums, from film to printmaking.
The exhibition includes new works inspired by the artist’s time in Houston, some following her residency at the Menil’s Cy Twombly Gallery, alongside Dean’s monumental blackboard drawings and groups of rarely shown drawings from her studio on paper, found postcards, and albumen photographs. A separate gallery presents a rotating group of her 16mm films.

METhe Dan Flavin Installation is home to one of the largest permanent displays of work by Dan Flavin. The building, Richmond Hall, sits on the southernmost edge of the Menil’s campus.
Flavin designed three site-specific installations.
Renowned for using the light from standard fluorescent tubes as a sculptural medium, the artist revolutionized art in the 1960s, creating experiences of great beauty with utilitarian objects available in any hardware store.

When the Menil Collection opened to the public in 1987, Dominique de Menil selected “The Halo” for the inaugural installation of artworks. As the title suggests, “The Halo” relates to the artist’s spiritual understanding of art.
