DR🧠 You can’t solve what you don’t understand.
My 6th graders reviewed 20 math vocabulary words at a time by playing memory in small groups.
Here’s the structure:
There are 100 total must-know words for the year.
I break them into sets of 20.
They work in groups of 5 and match each word to its definition.
Simple? Yes.
Powerful? Absolutely.
Because math is a language.
If students don’t understand the vocabulary, they can’t fully understand the question. And if they can’t understand the question, they can’t solve the problem.
Every month, I give a pop vocabulary check. By the end of the year, they’re expected to know all 100. (It’s even part of their summer review.)
Fun. Repetition. Reinforcement.
And they don’t even realize how much they’re locking in. 💜

Flashback Friday: On Parent Day at RCA, parents jumped in to play Smart Spoons with our 8th graders.
The twist? Instead of matching four of a kind, players had to find four equivalent exponential expressions.
If they were truly equivalent…

So today?
We took risks. 😈
All five of my classes went head-to-head playing Take a Risk in Sparks Studio on @ixl
Four teams.
Big points.
Bigger consequences.
Answer it correctly? 💰
Take the risk? DOUBLE, GAIN EXTRA POINTS, TRADE SCORES… or even lose it all. 👀
And the best part?
They were arguing over WHO got to solve the problems.
Pre-Algebra.
Algebra 1.
Honors Algebra.
Geometry.
6th Grade.
Different content.
Same intensity.
Because review in my class isn’t quiet worksheets.
It’s strategy.
It’s teamwork.
It’s “WAIT WAIT I KNOW IT.”
