This Anzu wyliei model was meticulously sculpted in Blender using publicly available fossil references. It’s part of an ongoing initiative to make scientifically accurate, 3D-printable reconstructions of prehistoric creatures accessible to artists, educators, and enthusiasts alike. Fossils represent a shared scientific heritage, yet access to detailed reconstructions is often limited—and increasingly controlled by private interests. This project aims to help change that by offering affordable, science-informed models to the wider public—models made for sharing, learning, and creating. Some free models, based directly on publicly available scans, are also available on Cults3D for those seeking open-access resources. However, the models I create are original, carefully interpreted and hand-sculpted from fossil data, offered at a modest price to support continued development. While these models are copyright-protected, sharing for educational purposes is encouraged. Unauthorized copying or resale is prohibited. Science should be open. Art should be shared. 🧠 This week starts the 6th annual Open Science Week (OSW), a digital campaign founded by the Allen Institute to promote the creating and sharing of open science - science that is accessible for all!! To celebrate, I’m highlighting my favorite (and my most used!) open science tools from the Allen Institute; the 3D viewer and the Mouse Brain Atlas. 🐭🧠🌐 I use these tools to ensure I know where in the brain I’m getting images from, since the brain is different from front to back and from top to bottom 🤯 with different regions contributing to specific functions.
