SThonestly i was never a high performing med student these past 5 years. Was constantly lost, confused and very anxious 😥 in all my lectures, tutorials and on the wards.
What changed was i stumbled into a niche perfect for my existing skill set. Being good at something made me passionate about it and even better at it. And for the first time, I felt competent as a future doctor.
So i guess the moral story is you don’t have to find your passion, it will just show up one day as the thing you are good at. I then realised perhaps i wasn’t a shoddy student all this time, perhaps i just lacked the excitement for it? but anyways thank goodness it’s here now.
This honestly was a very lucky thing, and if it can happen to me - you all should know ANYTHING in this world is possible. Life is too short for you to sabotage your story with self-doubt 🫶🏻

✨MD-PhD program ✨ is an accelerated PhD program for medical students who want to become physician/scientists. It allows me to complete the PhD portion in 2 years. As i have done 4/5 years of medical school (MD)+ 1 year of Honours - I will have 3 years left to go (2 years of PhD and final year of med school)!

ANI defended my doctoral thesis yesterday.
It’s a mix of emotions, but above all, I feel content and deeply grateful. The “one day”I’ve been longing for has finally come. It hasn’t been an easy ride.
I still remember the moment I first stepped onto this campus for the first time, right in the middle of COVID peak, and now I see how far I’ve come. I’ve grown so much 🥹

I wanted to share a little insight into my Oxford PhD interview! Here are 3 key questions they asked and my answers. I hope this gives you a sense of the journey! 💬💪
Q1: Why a PhD in Public Policy ?
A1: I shared that I’m drawn to public policy for its blend of teaching and research, which lets me address policy-relevant questions through an interdisciplinary lens. My goal is to provide knowledge that supports evidence-based policymaking in developing countries, making a tangible impact.
Q2: How does your background prepare you for this research?
A2: I explained how my experience working on randomized controlled trials and in field research during my predoc and my time working with the Indonesian government gave me practical insights into complex challenges in development economics. My work at [XX Government Organization] showed me how rigorous research can shape impactful policy decisions—exactly what I want to continue doing at Oxford.
Q3: What’s your research proposal about?
A3: My focus is on how restrictive gender norms affect women’s participation in the workforce. I want to explore strategies that could shift these norms sustainably, from examining misperceptions to assessing the impact of programs like Conditional Cash Transfers on gender roles in Indonesia.
Another side tip is to prepare a one note pager of your research proposal, including your proposed theory of change. You can open it during your practice interview and memorize the essence of it as a guideline to your answers.
