Also known as a “final e,” “silent e,” or “bossy e,” a “magic e” plays a key role in changing vowel sounds from short to long—as in “cap” and “cape.” Once your child gets the idea, practice with the Ends with E Adventure Game from Part 3 of The Reading Skill Set to reinforce this concept in a playful way. It would never have crossed my mind to play phonics games with Noa at this age (3) but I was sent some flash cards from @soundsfunresources a few years ago, and on a rainy day back in January I finally got them out for the first time. #ad ~ I’m genuinely passionate about what Sounds Fun Resources are doing, so a huge thanks to Claire and Jemma, two lovely Mums (both teachers) who recently asked if I’d like to work with them. They created the brand to empower parents with Phonics knowledge and confidence to correctly support their little one’s Phonics journey, whenever that may be. Aimed at 2-7 year olds, their resources are a great way to drip feed Phonics and letter formation through simple, fun activities. Here you can see Noa playing with PHASE 2 word building flashcards. The phonics playdough book has also been a hit, along with the fabulous triangular shaped pen which she finds easier to grip. I used mini marshmallows, pom poms, playdough pots and giant tweezers to enhance the activities. The resources are wipeable, reusable and a free pronunciation video is sent with every flashcard order. The flash cards and playdough book will make great Christmas gifts and I love that their resources are so reasonably priced as well.
