Zepto, Blinkit, and Instamart are thriving, while in the US and Europe, similar startups have shut down. But why? It’s not about technology or product-market fit. It’s about labor economics. In countries like the US, delivery riders earn around $19 per hour, making rapid delivery too costly. But in India, they earn just ₹40-₹80 per delivery—often less than $1 per order. This ultra-low-cost workforce makes quick commerce profitable in India, but it also raises tough questions. Are we willing to accept low wages and harsh working conditions just for the convenience of instant groceries? So one digital stack did a complete report on this and the answer is quite interesting. The coffee market on Blinkit in India is worth 12.5 crore a month or 150 crore a year. There are about 5 lakh packs of coffee sold in a month at a price point of about 500 rupees. At number 5, you have Continental Coffee with a market share of 4%. At number 4, you have a startup Sleepy Owl with a market share of 5%. At number 3, you have Bru Coffee with a market share of 9%. At number 2, surprisingly there is Davidoff with a market share of 25%. And at number 1, there is Nescafe with a market share of 45%. 90% of the coffee market on QuickCommerce is still instant coffee and Davidoff's high market share in this list shows that QuickCommerce customers prefer premium products.
