Das ist, als wäre eine Toilette unten verstopft und wir sagen: „Dann spülen wir einfach nicht mehr.“ Kein Überlaufen. Aber die Verstopfung bleibt. In der TCM heißt das ganz klar: Sind die Wege nach unten nicht frei, rebelliert das Magen-Qi nach oben. Reflux ist kein Hoch-Problem. Er zeigt dir, dass unten etwas festhängt. Die Frage ist also nicht: Wie blockiere ich Säure? Sondern: Wie mache ich meinem System die Wege nach unten wieder frei? #reflux

POV: you’ve been struggling with silent reflux (reflux without heartburn), also known as LPR (laryngopharyngeal reflux), and the first solution you’re offered is an acid suppressant, like a PPI (Proton Pump Inhibitor). It seems logical—less acid means less reflux, right? But here’s the problem—LPR isn’t driven by excess acid. It’s actually caused by stomach enzymes like pepsin, which reflux into your throat and airways, causing that burning, coughing, and irritation. PPIs might lower acid levels, but they don’t stop pepsin from moving into the esophagus. Pepsin is the real culprit in LPR, and since PPIs don’t target it, they often fall short of providing relief. In fact, many people with LPR have normal acid levels or even nonacidic reflux — meaning suppressing acid isn’t addressing the root cause at all. Instead of relying on medications that don’t fully solve the problem, wouldn’t you rather target the real issue—pepsin and the reflux itself? Reflux isn’t always just reflux. For many people, it’s the result of deeper imbalances happening further down the digestive tract. Things like gut infections, low stomach acid, and one of the most commonly overlooked contributors 👉 slow gut motility and constipation. Think of your digestive system like a road. If traffic backs up at the end of the road (constipation), that congestion doesn’t stay isolated - it gradually works its way backward, creating pressure and slowing everything upstream. When that happens, we often feel it higher up as: ✨reflux ✨chest pressure ✨early fullness ✨nausea ✨loss of appetite This is exactly what was happening with my client, Rose. She came to me because of heartburn, reflux, and a heavy pressure in her chest that made eating uncomfortable. But when we looked at her entire digestive picture, it became clear that the primary issue wasn’t just reflux - it was sluggish gut motility and infrequent bowel movements. A few important concepts about reflux you need to understand if you’ve been diagnosed with “silent” reflux/ laryngopharyngeal reflux / LPR. Throat irritation can occur due to movement of non acidic digestive enzymes such as pepsin which can reflux up through the esophagus and trigger upper airway inflammation. I can then “hear” the throat clearing, dry cough, and raspiness to your voice that can result from this inflammation. (Now, you still need a throat exam for throat symptoms but these clues along with history can point towards LPR). Well what does an antacid or acid suppression do? Encourages this refluxate to become non-acidic. It does not stop reflux! This can work well enough for traditional heartburn as a symptom of GERD but if it doesn’t stop reflux so upper airway symptoms can persist. Now, unfortunately upper endoscopies, gold standard for GERD, aren’t so great for LPRD. They can identify reasons for reflux (Ie h pylori infection, hiatal hernia) but often with LPRD the esophageal lining is ok (it’s the movement that is a problem). But here’s the thing - tummy time can actually HELP reflux when done the right way! Try this: Elevated tummy time over your legs. ✨ Prop your baby so their chest rests on your legs, with their head slightly above their tummy. ✨ The dip between your legs reduces belly pressure, making tummy time WAY more comfortable for your baby. ✨ Bonus: You can easily adjust the angle by bending your knees more or less to match their tolerance level!
