MA💭💭I understand that stimming sometimes could become a barrier to targeted instruction. But most of the time, that has nothing to do with the AAC tool itself. We must assess situations and reasons for increased stimming and respond with additional support, but taking away communication access is never the solution.
But equally as important is working with teachers, educators, and caregivers, who are essential because, as much as I know, robust AAC access is imperative for students; it means nothing if I don’t collaborate with the circle of support. Abandonment or lack of progress is inevitable when we shut away those who teach our students.
Please don’t abandon using the AAC device for stimming. There are many things one can try out and modify the AAC, provide alternative AAC tools for learning environments, but taking away robust communication is not the answer! AAC and robust communication are a right!

NALast month, during Capitol Hill Day, Aliyah Hodges (@aliyah.hodges), National NSSLHA members, and ASHA members (@ashaweb) met with lawmakers to share how federal loan limits affect CSD students.
Yesterday, that advocacy led to action — Congressman Tim Kennedy (@reptimkennedy) introduced legislation to protect access to federal loans for future health professionals, including audiologists and speech-language pathologists.
This issue is personal — CSD graduate programs are clinically intensive and often difficult to balance with outside work.
This is what advocacy looks like. When we speak up together, it can lead to real change.
