It swam straight up to our boat like it knew we were there to help. Its mouth was full of barnacles. God knows how long it hadn’t eaten. The capitán moved quick — I held it in my arms while he cleaned it up. It stayed calm the whole time. Lifted its head… took a breath… and disappeared back into the sea. Felt like it said thanks. It was like being dropped into a nature doc. Also… I won’t lie, I wasn’t sure if we should interfere. But the captain lives on these waters — so I followed his lead. Turtles have been my spirit animal since I swam with one in the Similan Islands, Thailand. Then visited a sanctuary in Songkhla. Now I’ve got a turtle tattoo and bracelet to match. They’re calm. Present. Wise little stoners — like the one in Finding Nemo 🐢💨 (Maybe like me too... gahaha.) Nature’s the biggest gift we’ve got. The ocean’s where I feel most alive. Your dream is to visit Seychelles, but you have only budget for Thailand? Come to Similan Islands 🩵 It’s a pure paradise situated only 2 hours from Phuket 😍 It’s a national park consists of 11 unique islands with sandy beaches, pristine water and amazing underwater life. It’s not possible to stay overnight there so the only chance to see it is to book a trip from Phuket or Khao Lak. We booked early bird trip, which started at 7 am 😍 Early morning wake up was absolutely worth it, because after 80 minutes by boat from Khao Lak we were in paradise. The trip took 8 hours, included transfer to the pier, English speaking guide, food (breakfast, lunch, snacks and soft drinks) and also snorkeling equipment. Practical tips: - Book it in advance because there is limited amount of people allowed to the national park. - If you want less crowded places book early bird trip as we did 😍 - If you want to fly your drone you need a PERMISSION. - If you want to save your time visit it from Khao Lak (if you’re going from Phuket it’s + 2 hours transfer to the pier each way). - Bring your camera because it will be stunning 😍 Looking for more travel inspo from Thailand? Wait that's not it, There will be turtles enjoying a peaceful swim with you and if you are lucky they might just pass within inches.. Wondering, How do you get here?? ⬇️⬇️ 1. If you are staying in Phuket be ready to wake up as early as 3 AM coz your pick up will be at 4 AM from hotel 2. Sleep well on a 2 hour cab ride to speedboat starting point 3. Next you are on a beautiful, fast and bumpy speedboat ride (around 1.5 hrs) to similan Islands where you will be one of first people to arrive and you have the island all for yourself 4. Once you explore the island and enjoy swimming in crystal clear water, Next thing you know there is a turtle swimming alongside It's truly magical to experience them at such close distance (pls ensure you never touch any aquatic animals, they are allowed to touch you if they like you 😜) We booked the whole experience through Siam adventure world and I would highly recommend it to anyone planning to visit similan.. @siamadventureworld . . #similan #similanislands #turtle #swimwithturtles #thailand🇹🇭

🇬🇧 If you don’t want to end up like us — stuck on a boat without towels or watching the dive plan change last minute and missing the iconic site you were dying to see — follow these tips. 😬⤵️ 1. Choose the right season: The Similan Islands marine park is only open from mid-October to mid-May. Outside that window the park is closed. So plan your dive trip within that timeframe. 2. Because the islands are quite remote (50-70 km offshore) the dive operator and boat matter. If you hate rushing, go for a 2D/1N or 5D/4N liveaboard. If you’re tight on time, day trips work — just prepare for early starts and long rides for only 2 dives… 3. Pack the essentials: Water is warm, visibility is amazing, some dives go deeper or slightly darker depending on the site, and there’s even a small wreck to explore. Bring a light wetsuit, a torch, and reef-safe sunscreen. 4. Don’t build your trip around whale sharks: They can be here, but nothing is guaranteed. Come for the blue water, the granite boulders, the fish clouds… and if a whale shark glides in, that’s just a big bonus!👌💙 5. Choose your operator wisely: There are dive shops everywhere around Phuket and Khao Lak. Prices vary, boats vary, and so do the dive sites they take you to. To give you an idea: A day trip (2 dives) ~ THB 5,600 per diver. A 2-day / 1-night liveaboard starts ~ THB 13,900. A 5-day liveaboard is usually from THB 25,900+, depending on the boat and route. 6. Make sure you know exactly which dive sites are on the program. Some operators focus on the most famous spots, others include quieter reefs, some combine Surin & Similans, and not everyone goes to the top sites like Koh Bon or Koh Tachai. Always ask about: - the exact dive sites planned - number of dives per day - boat comfort & group size - what’s included/excluded (Marine park fee?
