Carving a snowboard involves tilting the board on edge to slice through the snow rather than skidding, creating a precise, thin line. Key techniques include keeping knees bent, committing weight forward, initiating turns with the feet/ankles, and stacking your body over the edge.

Key Steps to Carving
Initiation & Tilt: Start with a shallow angle, using your ankles and knees to tip the board onto its edge.
For toe-side turns, press your shins against the front of your boots; for heel-side, sink your hips down like you're sitting in a chair.
Body Position: Keep your shoulders parallel with the board and your back straight, ensuring your weight is centered over the edge to prevent the board from sliding out.
Pressure Control: Apply consistent pressure to both feet throughout the turn to maintain the edge hold.
Linking Turns: Transition from one edge to the other by flattening the board briefly before switching to the new edge.
Tips for Success
Practice on Mellow Slopes: Start on gentle, uncrowded, well-groomed slopes to build confidence.
Avoid Excessive Upper Body Movement: Focus on using your lower body for engagement, keeping your upper body stable.
Gear: A stiff, directional board with a camber profile is ideal for maximum edge hold.
