KOThe trial for a man who shot a disabled veteran on the Seattle Waterfront last summer started Monday morning as jurors heard from prosecutors and the man's defense attorney in opening statements.
Gregory Timm, 33, faces one count of assault in the first degree and theft in the third degree for the July 31 shooting at Alaskan Way and Seneca Street.
The King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office alleges Timm confronted the victim, 68-year-old Harold Powell, and demanded to see military identification to verify he was a veteran.

NOMedia Release: Toronto Man Arrested with Suspected Fentanyl Following Traffic Stop
The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) arrested a Toronto man after a traffic stop led to the discovery of suspected fentanyl, illicit cannabis, and an edged weapon.
The accused, 18-year-old, male, of, Toronto Ontario, has been charged with:
✔️ Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Fentanyl)
✔️ Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
✔️ Carrying Concealed Weapon
✔️ Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
✔️ Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
✔️ Possess Illicit Cannabis
✔️ Possess Illicit Cannabis (under 19)
✔️ Passenger Fail to Wear Seatbelt
At approximately 1:45 p.m. on March 8, the NBPS Patrol Section conducted a traffic stop for a passenger not wearing a seatbelt. During the stop, the accused exited the vehicle and was observed throwing an item a short distance away. Upon investigation, the item was suspected to be fentanyl. The accused was arrested without incident, and a subsequent search revealed illicit cannabis and an edged weapon.
Subsequent search led to the seizure of the following items:
Controlled substances with an estimated street value of over $7,600 including:
🔹38 grams Fentanyl
🔹11 grams of illicit Cannabis
🔹$103 Canadian currency
“Every day, our members see the impact that fentanyl and other illegal drugs can have on individuals, families, and our community,” said A/Insp. Hampel. “Even a routine traffic stop, such as this, can make a big difference, as we fight to remove these dangerous substances from our streets.”
The accused was arrested and held in custody pending a bail hearing.
