Strength training — particularly progressive loading with barbells — preserves lean mass, maintains bone density, improves insulin sensitivity, and protects the nervous system pathways that keep you strong, stable, and capable. Ageing isn’t the real threat. Rapid muscle loss is. Adults can lose 3–8% of muscle mass per decade after 30, accelerating after 60. Less muscle means less strength, poorer balance, reduced mobility, higher fall risk, and a faster slide toward dependence. This has never been about aesthetics. Train your body. Not your muscles. If getting big is your only goal, fill your boots. But if building a strong and capable body is your goal, there is a more optimal way to train. Functional fitness focuses on more than just strength. Full body integration, mobility, range of motion and movements with direct carryover to day to day life. I’m not the strongest, nor am I the biggest. But this style of training has gotten me into the best shape of my life and I feel better in my 30s than I did in my early 20s.

Quit blaming age. Most men do not suddenly fall apart. They slowly lower the standard and call it aging. 2. Quit eating for convenience. Eat for recovery, energy, and control. 3. Quit spending time around men with low standards. Your circle either sharpens you or softens you. 4. Quit relying on motivation. Build routines you follow whether you feel like it or not. 5. You don’t have to choose between lifting and running, and honestly, I think a lot of people convince themselves they do because it’s easier to stay in what they’re already good at. For me, lifting is what built my body. It’s what shaped me, made me feel strong, confident, capable. But running… running challenged me in a completely different way. It humbled me. It forced me to slow down, to build patience, to actually work on my endurance instead of just chasing a pump. And I think that’s where people get it wrong. They see them as opposing things, like one will take away from the other. But the reality is, they complement each other when you do them properly. Lifting gives you strength, structure, and muscle. Running builds your engine, your heart, your ability to keep going when things get uncomfortable. It’s not about doing more for the sake of doing more. It’s about becoming more well-rounded. Feeling strong in your body, but also knowing you can move, push, and last.
