ELToday was a textile printing day, and I felt like working with pattern, so I pulled an idea from my sketchbook.
The piece I chose was perfect for stencilling - very simple shapes which are quick to cut, and the circles are easy to print with something like a small dowel, or the end of a glue stick or pencil (depending on what size you want).
The collaged original is quite textural, so I recreated that by using a couple of different brushes and not applying the fabric paint too thoroughly. I could have got away with using just the stippling brush, but it’s good to try other things out too.
The base cloth here is a cotton/linen mix. It’s a nice surface to work on with just a little texture and flecking that breaks up the solid surface colour.
Once ironed, I plan to use this piece of cloth to make a little bag or fabric accessory of some sort, which I will share here when it has been made.

ELI thought I was going to create a really relaxing reel, but it turned out there was too much information to pack into this one to make it feel as slow and chill as intended. So, we have this instead . . .
I have almost sold out of my floral lino prints on paper, and so decided to make a stencilled and printed version on fabric. It was a bit fiddly, but actually surprisingly quick to do. Cutting the tiny bits of masking tape is something that needs to be done on a day that you’re feeling calm and relaxed - I wouldn’t attempt it on other days!
I made all the stencils myself, and the little printing tool is just a piece of cardboard. I used a slightly thicker piece for the stem. The paper circles act as a guide for where to place the masking tape - it saves you having to draw on the cloth, leaving marks or lines.
