AZThere are times (perhaps more often than we think),
that the act of “choosing” in the moment is actually
just the conscious mind catching up to what
the subconscious has already decided.
This aligns well with the idea of Compatibilism in philosophy,
meaning that the idea that free will and determinism
are not mutually exclusive.
Perhaps our dualistic mind perceives them as such,
but perhaps in essence they are not.
You are free to do what you want,
but you are not free to want what you want.
In the Matrix case, Neo is free,
but his nature determines his path.
I know, for one side it doesn’t make sense,
but at least it is worth reflecting on this
from an as little dualistic point of view
as possible...
Perhaps, if the Oracle represents the “Human” understanding of choice (intuition, purpose), the Merovingian represents the “Machine” understanding (code, input/output).
And maybe, we are processing things too much on a “machine like” understanding,
that’s why some epiphanies elude us...
Later in the film, the Merovingian argues the exact opposite of the Oracle.
He believes in Causality (Cause and Effect) without choice.
He argues, “𝘾𝙝𝙤𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙖𝙣 𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙥𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙩.”
The Merovingian believes you are a slave to the “why” (the cause).
The Oracle believes understanding the “why” gives you power over the future.
Yes, we will not see an end to this endless as time discussion on this simple post,
but just sharing something worth reflecting upon here
in the last days of this year!
