Last Thursday, The Abel team had the privilege of volunteering with @thread_together From the moment we arrived, Madi, our Thread Together representative, shared a perspective that resonated deeply with our team: a third of new clothing goes straight from factory to landfill, while one in eight adults and one in six children in Australia don’t have access to essential clothing. Through their mobile pop-up shops and in-store experiences, Thread Together supports disadvantaged communities, including women fleeing violence, with dignity and respect. These communities are provided with brand new clothing from brands such as Dissh and THE ICONIC, helping them regain a sense of self-expression and confidence. We spent three hours sorting through boxes of brand new children’s clothing, preparing them for distribution to @ronaldmcdonaldhousewa Sorting through newborn, toddler and children’s sizes was a powerful reminder of the realities faced by many, and an eye-opening reflection on our own everyday privilege. A small way to give back, but an experience that opened our eyes to the scale of clothing waste and the importance of dignity in meeting life’s most basic needs🤍 #charity #threadtogether #perth

Community clothing swap loading… 👀 I’m preparing for our next clothing swap and would love a little help from the community to make it happen. Right now I’m looking for: • A donated clothing rack (if you have one you’re not using!) • Or small donations to help purchase one • A few volunteers for the day of the event to help set up, organize clothes, and keep things running smoothly Can’t attend but still want to participate? You can also donate clothing for the swap so someone else in the community can give it a new life. ⚠️ A quick note: I can’t accept large clothing donations since I don’t have the storage space right now. Please check the donation guidelines before dropping anything off to see what items I’m able to take. This event is all about community, sharing resources, and keeping clothing in circulation instead of sending it to landfills. If you’d like to help, volunteer, donate a rack, or contribute to purchasing one, send me a message or check the details in the post 🤍

Sometimes, we’re not able to use everything that comes into us, but that doesn’t stop us from paying it forward! ➡️ We recently donated clothing that wasn’t suitable for the women we serve to @crisis_uk – a remarkable charity that supports people out of homelessness. ♻️ This is circular fashion in action. 🙌 This is a partnership to be proud of.
