NIUnexpected water. If you live in WA or any rainy place, it’s more of a WHEN than an IF.
Over the weekend we heard a gurgling sound coming from a vent. The sound of water 💦 having lived in Washington my whole life and now working as a real estate agent and investor, water comes with the territory. But you certainly don’t want it in your crawl.
We cracked open the crawl space access and found 12+ inches of water under our house.
Here’s the next steps we took (and are taking) to protect our home:
1. TAKE PHOTOS AND VIDEOS
Depending on the damage and the reason this happened it’s worth a call to insurance.
2. CALL A PRO
Even though we are handy folks, crawling around in 12 inches of water while worried about the fix is probably going to only add to the frustration. I found that when we call in a pro, we feel more peace, more calm, and have better answers in the end.
Fortunately, we have a long list of trusted pros and our favorite handyman came SAME DAY to help us start pumping out the water.
3. STOP THE DAMAGE FROM INCREASING
This meant, it was time for our mini lake to move on! We pumped an estimated 10,000-12,000 gallons of water using a pump from our local hardware store. A pump, a house, and some fishing waders were the only supplies needed.
4. MORE PICTURES AND VIDEOS
Now that the water is lower, we are calling in for bids for the damage to better understand what’s happening beneath the house.
It’s all in progress, we are laughing our way through joys of homeownership and above all else…
5. “COUNT IT ALL JOY when you face trials of any kind”
The book of James reminds us that easy days aren’t promised, but the choice to use JOY as a weapon has a promised outcome… endurance of faith. My house can become a houseboat over night and my God is still good. I’m not a victim to bad news and my attitude about it has a direct correlation to the endurance of my faith!!
