Does anyone else feel this overwhelming sense of pressure and guilt from being a working mom?
If you’re a working mom like me, here’s some things you may resonate with:
1. You’re a mom of MANY talents. I LOVE being a doctor and I know many of you do too. We shouldn’t need to feel bad for saying that. We can also be good at something outside of the household and it doesn’t make us a bad parent.
2. Yes, we’re going to miss life things - parties, events, field trips, etc - but we will do everything we can to be there for our kid’s biggest moments. We may not be the “room mom” but that doesn’t mean that we can’t be intentional about contributing in our own way. Quality over quantity. Showing up is what truly matters.
3. Take out dinners are okay. Some nights, dinner is going to have to be whatever is easiest. We shouldn’t feel guilty for not being in the kitchen all day making Pinterest perfect meals. (PS. Most nights our kids probably won’t even eat it).
In our house, we are both working parents so time is precious. So sometimes, the best thing for our family is what is quick and easy.
4. Working moms and stay at home moms are both incredible in their own ways. As a doctor - my hours are extremely long, I’m rarely home by 6 or in bed by 9, and there is hardly any extra time. But truth is, I signed up for this. I chose a career AND I chose to be a mother. Now my job is to find peace and balance between them not to compare myself to moms who live a totally different life. One is not better than the other. We’re all doing our best so kudos to us 👏🏻
Working moms, I see you. Don’t let the comparison and mom guilt steal the joy of your own journey in motherhood. Soak it in. We won’t do it all right - but we’re all doing the best we can.
