How to structure a 5 day workout plan for lean muscle and performance. Compounds uses multiple muscles at once. These are your big lifts such as squat, bench press, deadlift etc. Accessory movements or mini compounds follow on from compound exercises. They allow you to hit certain muscle groups in different ways and can be used exercises such as lat pull down, leg curl, leg extension, tricep extension etc. Isolation exercises involve only one joint and a limited number of muscles such as bicep curl, shoulder press, glute kickback etc. As well as strength & functional training, I incorporate a 5km easy run & sprints into my training plan each week.
