maturing in the gym is realizing that “zone 2 cardio” is breathy: #Zone2Cardio does not mean: • Walking your dog around the neighborhood... • Non-consecutive minutes aka: Doing 10 mins of cardio, abs, 10 mins of cardio, abs, 10 mins of cardio. • You go intense for 5 minutes, recover zone 1 recovery walk 5 minutes. • Leisurely walking with a friend outside. ➡️ these do NOT reach the same stimulus that a true zone-2 demands to actually burn fat DON’T WASTE 30 MINS LOLLYGAGGING the only person you’re sabotaging?? yourself.

There will always be SOME new “thing” you need to buy. A few years ago it was wrist/ankle weights, a few years before that it was waist trainers and a few years before that it was a Peloton and Tummy Tea. And now a lot of these products sit around in your closets never to be touched again 😬 Can weighted vests be helpful for some people especially if you have a hard time getting into Zone 2 with a regular walk and you don’t have access to a treadmill where you can increase speed or incline? Yes. Is a weighted vest your cure all fix for everything and something you NEED? Absolutely not. I have a feeling a lot of these weighted will end up in that same pile with your waist trainers, tummy tees, ankle weights and peloton bikes in a few years. Buying things FEELS like taking action but at the end of the day…it’s false hope. Buying things doesn’t teach you how to FOLLOW through…which is what most of us actually need to learn. So…before you spend money on another random product that everyone on social media is using…ask yourself if this will help you FOLLOW through? Or if it’s just a temporary excitement that will fade in a few weeks? I want to know…which of these products have you bought before?! Let’s quickly talk Z2 (Hold finger down on post to pause the screen and read 👆🏻) Depending on your goal, the activity (ie, running will have a higher zone 2 range than biking bc more muscles are recruited), and your coach, the zone %s may vary slightly, (the average range is about 65-75% of your max heart rate.) The best way to truly know if youre in zone 2 or not, is to test your abllity to hold a convo with someone. If you cant speak fluidly, you’re not in zone 2, and if you can speak to easily or sing, youre probably in lower zone 1. When we talk about “metabolic efficiency” we mean your body’s ability to use glucose and fat at the appropriate times, under specific demand. (Ie, Our gen pop is in a very “glucose” adapted metabolic state, when we should be burning primarily fat as fuel source at rest.) Creating an aerobic base with zone 2 cardio will allow you to excel at basically all other things in your physical, mental, and emotional life. 📌 First - save this because this will be your blueprint for success 👍🏽 The 2 things: WALKING AND RESISTANCE TRAINING Let’s break it down ⬇️ 🔹WALKING Hit 10K steps per day. If you’re not close, just increase by 1000 every week. Get outside for those walks! Or get a walking pad to help. Steps you get from your day to day activities will add up! That counts toward the 10K steps. We live in a sedentary world and no one has ever told me they feel worse by going for a walk. Walking is AMAZING exercise. Great for the mind and body; helps with managing blood sugar and improves digestion. 🔹RESISTANCE TRAINING Do this 3-4x week ✔️ Most women I talk to want to look more toned and fit. This comes from having muscle, not just less fat. You achieve this by lifting weights applying progressive overload.Many overestimate how much muscle they have and underestimate how much they need to get the look they want. Bottom line: you need more muscle. Keep the same program for AT LEAST 4-6 weeks. I personally prefer minimally 8-12 weeks. Stop program hopping. Once you have mastered those 2 things, sprinkle in some zone 2 cardio. This is not only good for your heart and lungs, it will improve your performance in the gym. I do all 3 things. At almost 50, I am just as fit and strong as I was when I played pro basketball 🏀 I know this formula works. I truly do believe in this exercise trifecta of 1️⃣ lifting weights 2️⃣ hitting 10K steps a day 3️⃣ zone 2 cardio ➖paired WITH proper nutrition leads to optimal results! 💪🏽😮‍💨💛 But start with walking and lifting - master those 2 things first.
