AUNot because we want to be, but because we’ve grown up in a world that normalizes ableism at every turn. It’s in our schools, workplaces, media, language, and even in the way our cities are built.
Being ableist doesn’t always mean being cruel. It can mean assuming someone should communicate, move, or learn a certain way without even realizing it.
The truth is, we’ve all internalized these biases. What matters isn’t denying it... it’s noticing it, unlearning it, and doing better.
Ableism is everywhere. But so is the opportunity to challenge it.
