One thing I love about deejaying is finding ways to subliminally communicate a message to people via song selection.   For example, this was from the @NBA2K launch event last year. I was deejaying.  @ronnie2k was hanging.  And @2chainz walked in to the party. Of course, I could do what every DJ would do when an artist walks into the spot and play all their hits.   But does he really to hear “all I want for my birthday is a big booty hoe” every minute of his life? (I’m sure he would maybe enjoy the booty, but maybe not the song. Lol.) Knowing 2 Chainz pedigree as a master of lyrics and a true connoisseur of the culture, I went deep.   Played a cut from his album with my boy @statikselekt. Then I played his collab with @wearedelasoul. And finally the Player’s Circle song with @phontigallo. You can see the moment that was created when a deejay respects someone’s art and approaches them on a holistic level with music.  Or as he said: “that was real psychology.” A message to all the up and coming deejays out there: dig deeper.  It’s truly what makes what we do special.
