Here are four Bible study methods that Christians commonly use to deepen their understanding of Scripture and apply it to their lives:
1. SOAP Method
S – Scripture: Write out a verse or passage that stands out.
O – Observation: Note what you observe—who, what, when, where, why, and how.
A – Application: Reflect on how this applies to your life today.
P – Prayer: Write or say a prayer asking God to help you live out this truth.
Great for personal devotions and journaling.
2. Verse Mapping
Choose a verse: Select one verse to dig into.
Write it out: Include multiple translations (e.g., NIV, ESV, AMP).
Define keywords: Use a Bible dictionary or concordance.
Cross-reference: Find related verses for deeper understanding.
Apply it: Summarise what God is teaching you.
Great for visual learners and word-study lovers.
3. Topical Study Method
Pick a topic: (e.g., forgiveness, faith, purpose)
Gather verses: Use a concordance or Bible app to find related Scriptures.
Study context: Understand the setting of each verse.
Compare and connect: Look for patterns, differences, and deeper insights.
Apply it: Reflect on how the topic influences your life and walk with God.

4. Character Study

*H - Highlight: Read a part of the Bible and mark the important verses or phrases that catch your attention.
*E - Explain: Think about what the passage means in your own words. Consider the story, the writer’s message, and the time it was written.
*A - Apply: See how the passage connects to your life. Think about what you can learn from it and how you can use it in your own actions and choices.

SP5 mistakes to AVOID when doing personal Bible study👇🏼💜
1️⃣Comparing your personal study to others
That’s why it’s called PERSONAL study. It’s not about anyone else, it’s not a competition, it’s not a race, it’s to draw closer to JEHOVAH GOD. Jehovah doesn’t compare you to others so why should you? Comparing yourself to others will just weaken your faith and discourage you from even starting or to keep going
2️⃣Not meditating
Reading the Bible and NOT meditating is like eating food and then just spitting it out. It may taste good but you’re not getting the nutrients and benefits you need from it. To meditate on what you read means to really grasp the meaning of the passages. It helps to strengthen your faith and retain information better.
3️⃣Not using resources or help
The Bible is a beautiful, deep book. There are many scriptures that may be confusing when you’re just reading alone. So make sure to make full use of any resources and help that is available to help better understand what a verse/scripture means
4️⃣Becoming presumptuous/arrogant
The Bible is a book full of wisdom and knowledge. You will learn SO much from God’s Word and that’s a great thing! But don’t let what you’ve learned, get to your head and make you judgmental of others. You’re not better than anyone because you read more or know more. (Php. 2:3,4) Of course, reading and meditating on God’s word should help with the fruitage of the spirit but it’s always an ongoing process.
5️⃣Reading verses out of context
Sometimes, a verse may seem very straight to the point. But like media, sometimes bits and pieces don’t represent the whole picture. So always make sure to read an entire passage, look up the footnotes and references when applicable, and do your due diligence when meditating on a particular verse. Don’t let yourself or others twist what the Bible is saying, study for yourself and dig deep for true, spiritual gems💜

LIHOW TO READ + UNDERSTAND THE BIBLE… PART 2 !!!
This is one of the most asked questions in my DM’s… so I’m going to write it all out for you friends!!
Three steps to I follow when studying the Bible:
🌟First, pray, then start your Bible study by reading your selected passage. Read slowly — highlighting and writing down whatever is sticking out to you in your journal.
🌟Second, open up your commentary and go to your selected passage in the commentary. I like to “exegetical study” the Word — which simply means to pull the meaning out of the text. This is done by going verse by verse throughout your selected passage to fully understand the context, meaning and significance.
🌟Third, take notes as you read: write down repeated words, commands, promises, and what the text may be revealing about God’s character.
Last question I get asked is what my personal process looks like specifically —
I like to study books of the Bible in whole, I will begin a book and remain in that book until I have fully studied. I go verse by verse, and exegetically study my way through that book.
What this means is that if the book was Jeremiah, I would begin spending time in prayer, then reading Jeremiah chapter 1, then going back through chapter 1 verse 1 with my commentary and go until my section for the day is finished!!
My favorite/go-to Bibles are the “NKJV Spirit Filled Life Study Bible,” the Enduring Word Study Bible, & any Bible from @hosannarevival (I also get all my journals from them too ✨🤲🏼)
My go-to commentaries are the enduring Word commentary, the Blue Letter Bible, and Warren Wiersbe’s Bible Commentary!!
There is so much more I could say, but I hope that covered most of your frequently asked questions surrounding how to study the Bible!!!
