Crunchy on the outside, tender inside, and completely smothered the old-fashioned way 🤎 Forget light sauce… this gravy means business. ⏱️ Recipe Details Prep Time: 15 minutes Cook Time: 25–30 minutes Total Time: ~45 minutes Servings: 4 🧺 Ingredients Steak 4 cube steaks 1 tsp salt ½ tsp black pepper ½ tsp garlic powder ½ tsp paprika Breading 1½ cups all-purpose flour 1 tsp salt ½ tsp black pepper 2 eggs ½ cup milk For Frying 1 cup oil (vegetable or canola) Heavy Brown Gravy 3 tbsp pan drippings 3 tbsp all-purpose flour 2½–3 cups warm beef broth 1 tsp black pepper Salt, to taste 👩‍🍳 Instructions Fry the Steak Season cube steaks with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. In one bowl, mix flour with salt and pepper. In another bowl, whisk eggs and milk. Dredge steaks in flour → egg mixture → back into flour (press coating firmly). Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry steaks 3–4 minutes per side until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels. Make the Heavy Brown Gravy In the same skillet, leave about 3 tbsp drippings. Whisk in flour and cook 2 minutes until lightly browned. Slowly whisk in warm beef broth. Add black pepper and simmer until very thick and glossy. Serve Place crispy steaks on plates. Spoon heavy brown gravy generously over the top. Country Fried Steak with Homemade Gravy Spice Blend 1 tablespoon Canadian steak seasoning 1 tablespoon Kinder’s Buttery Steakhouse seasoning 1 tablespoon garlic powder 1 tablespoon onion powder 1 tablespoon dried thyme Dredging Station 1 cup milk or buttermilk 2 large eggs 2 cups all-purpose flour Prepared spice blend (divided) Gravy 4 tablespoons olive oil ½ cup onion, finely chopped ¼ cup all-purpose flour 2 cups water 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon black pepper 1 teaspoon onion powder Additional Items Canola oil, for frying Parchment paper, for flattening steak Meat tenderizer Oil temperature: 350°F Fry time: about 10 minutes Instructions Prepare the Steak Place the steak between two sheets of parchment paper. Using a meat tenderizer, gently pound the steak until evenly flattened. Set aside. Make the Spice Blend In a small bowl, mix together all ingredients for the spice blend. Divide the mixture in half—one portion for the flour and one for seasoning. Set Up the Dredging Station In one bowl, whisk together the milk (or buttermilk) and eggs. In another bowl, combine the flour with half of the spice blend. Bread the Steak Season the flattened steak lightly with the remaining spice blend. Dip the steak into the egg mixture, then dredge it in the seasoned flour, pressing firmly so the coating sticks. Repeat if you prefer a thicker crust. Perfect for Sunday dinners, family gatherings, or when you’re craving true comfort food! 🧾 INGREDIENTS (Serves 4) For the steaks: 4 cube steaks (about 150–180 g / 5–6 oz each) 1 1/2 cups (190 g) all-purpose flour 1 tsp seasoned salt 1/2 tsp paprika 1/2 tsp black pepper 1/2 tsp garlic powder 1 cup (240 ml) buttermilk 2 large eggs Vegetable oil, for frying For the country gravy: 1/4 cup (30 g) flour (reserved from dredging) 2 cups (480 ml) whole milk Salt and black pepper, to taste 👩‍🍳 INSTRUCTIONS 1️⃣ In a shallow bowl, mix flour with seasoned salt, paprika, pepper, and garlic powder. 2️⃣ In another bowl, whisk buttermilk and eggs together. 3️⃣ Dredge each steak in seasoned flour, dip into buttermilk mixture, then coat again in flour. INGREDIENTS • 2–3 cube steaks or tenderized steaks Seasoned Flour • 2½ cups all-purpose flour • 1/4 cup cornstarch • 2 tsp kosher salt • 1½ tsp black pepper • 1½ tsp garlic powder • 1 tsp onion powder • ½ tsp paprika Buttermilk Wash • 3 eggs • ¾ cup buttermilk • ½ tsp salt • 1–2 tsp hot sauce (I use @franksredhot ) For Frying • @kettleandfire beef tallow or neutral oil Pepper Gravy • 3 tbsp pan drippings or butter • 3 tbsp flour • 2 cups whole milk (warm) • 1–1½ tsp black pepper • Salt to taste INSTRUCTIONS 1. • Whisk together all seasoned flour ingredients in a wide bowl. 2. • Whisk eggs, buttermilk, salt, and hot sauce in another bowl. 3. • Lightly season steaks with salt and pepper. 4. • Dredge steak in flour → dip in buttermilk → back in flour. Press the flour in firmly. 5. • Let breaded steaks rest 5 minutes while oil heats. 6. • Heat oil to 340–350°F and fry 4–5 minutes per side until deep golden. Remove to rack and lightly salt. 7. • Pour off all but 3 tbsp fat from the pan. Whisk in 3 tbsp flour and cook 1 minute. 8. • Slowly whisk in 2 cups warm milk.
