Are you constantly feeling tired or lacking focus?? This might be your breath😮‍💨 Because the majority of the people in the western society have dysfunctional breathing patterns and are chronic mouth breathers. By breathing through your mouth only, you are breathing very shallow and high in the chest. By breathing this way, you are hyperventilating without you even noticing it. By breathing this way you are sending a stress response to the body which keeps cortisol levels high and energy levels low. Resulting in a constant feeling of brain fog or tiredness🥱 Becoming aware of this is the first step to living to your full potential. By investing 60 seconds a couple of times a day, to really focus on nose breathing and guiding the breath low into the belly, you can already calm down your nervous system. Let me explain👇 There are two main types of breathwork most people don’t realize are different: 1. Experiential breathwork sessions - laying down for an hour, doing specific breathing patterns, yoga mat. Cool music. 2. Functional breathwork - fixing the way you breathe all day, every day. The 20,000 breaths you’re not paying attention to. I was doing #1. A lot of it. And it worked, I got calm, would have amazing insight and felt whole and confident then boom…the anxiety and disconnection would come back. The tension would return. I’d book another session. But here’s what I didn’t understand: Those sessions were managing my symptoms. They weren’t fixing what was causing them. The real problem? The way I was breathing the REST of the time. Shallow. Fast. Through my chest. Through my mouth. Broken breathing mechanics running in the background 24/7 - driving my anxiety, wrecking my sleep, keeping my nervous system stuck in stress mode. And I was doing NOTHING about that. Sessions gave me temporary relief. But they never addressed the root cause. Here’s the shift: If your default breathing behavior is broken, no amount of cool experiential sessions will fix it. You can’t out-session a broken baseline. But when you fix HOW you breathe all day? The sessions become optional. Not mandatory. And honestly you can go a whole lot deeper in the experience and embody the insights from the session when that confidence and clarity last. That’s the difference between managing symptoms and actually healing. If you’ve been doing breathwork sessions (or therapy, or meditation) for months and you’re STILL stuck in this chronic overwhelm a few days later - your baseline breathing is probably the problem.
