JUPeople sometimes ask who my favorite bear is of all the bears I've seen. Chops is right up there. You don't get to 1400 pounds as a bear without seeing things and knowing stuff. When I post videos of him, I get lots of comments that it can't be a real bear, or that it's a guy in a bear suit, but Chops is 100% bear. I love knowing that there are animals like Chops out there in the wild. It humbles me and puts a whole bunch of things in perspective for me.
And for the inevitable commenters....Chops is not hurt in this video, and he just has a goofy shed pattern. There's another male bear out of the frame for whom he's demonstrating dominance by cowboy-walking. I saw again him this past July and he was as massive and beautiful as ever.

The Grizzly Bear (a subspecies of the Brown Bear) is renowned for its sheer power and ferocity in North America.

Despite their impressive size (adult males can weigh up to 500 kg), Grizzlies are surprisingly fast runners. They can reach speeds of up to 50–56 km/h (up to 35 mph). This means a person cannot outrun them.

One of the most characteristic physical features of the Grizzly is the pronounced hump on its shoulders. This isn’t fat; it is a dense mass of developed muscle (the trapezius muscle). This musculature provides the Grizzly with incredible strength in its forelimbs, allowing it to dig, break apart logs, and hunt successfully.

OUGrizzly bears are a North American form of the brown bear. They can reach around 360 kg (≈790 lb) and measure roughly 1.5–2.4 m long.
In the wild they commonly live to about 25 years, and during salmon runs—especially in Alaska—you can spot large groups feeding. Though omnivores, plant matter and fish make up a big part of their diet. Fast and powerful, grizzlies can sprint to ~48 km/h (30 mph) and have an incredibly strong bite. 🐾

COWolf and 2 Brown bears
I can only speculate what’s going on here… this is a lone wolf that’s been in this area on his own for quite some time. Wolves are social animals and definitely get bored. Part of me wonders if he was just looking for someone to play with, obviously there’s some rough play here with caution from both the wolf and the bears but either way it was incredible to see this type of behavior.
