Timing is everything. Depending on the timing, tillage can encourage the plant species we want to promote and discourage the plant species that are not good duck food. Properly managed moist soil units can provide great duck habitat and food. There are several native plant species that are as good as anything we could plant.
Wild rice
Pondweeds

Smartweed
Duckweed
….not to mention all the invertebrates that a moist soil unit promotes!

LOThought i would give the old Ford a shot at pulling the chisel plow as we start prepping some more ground. This back section is gonna be the fall corn maze, Ham and Hock have been hard at work, but now it's time to get serious.

The 8N made a solid effort, and with a little more gas I probably coulda made it, but we got alot of field to cover, and im not trying to run it into the ground quite yet. So we are looking up the Ferguson TO30 so it can take over and get the job done. It's pulled some serious roots out of the ground and just chugs along with the chisels running 6-10" deep. Don't worry, little Ford, we will give you a shot with the tandom disc next.
