The core of this technology is a sophisticated internal cable-tightening system powered by a custom-engineered motor and gear train located in the midsole. When you step into a self-adjusting shoe like the Nike Adapt, sensors detect the tension and space around your foot, automatically triggering the motor to pull the cables until it achieves a perfect, snug fit—a process known as FitAdapt technology.  The “smart” part comes from the integration of an onboard processor and a 6-axis gyroscope. These components allow the shoe to sense when your foot expands during heavy physical activity—like a basketball game—and automatically loosen or tighten the grip to maintain comfort and blood flow.
