$100 billion for AI. Why does this matter? India just received one of the biggest AI infrastructure commitments in its history. Today, many Indian AI startups rent computing power from foreign cloud companies. They pay in dollars. So even if the company is Indian, the core infrastructure is not. That is the gap this $100 billion commitment by the Adani Group is trying to fill. The plan is to build large, green-energy powered, AI-ready data centres inside India. The existing 2 GW data centre platform will be expanded to 5 GW by 2035. This will make it one of the largest AI-ready setups in the world. In partnership with Google, a major AI data centre campus will be built in Visakhapatnam, along with campuses in Noida, Hyderabad and Pune. This directly supports the government’s IndiaAI Mission. Under this mission, approved startups already get subsidised compute at around ₹65 per hour, compared to global rates of about ₹250 per hour. The government pays the difference. With bigger infrastructure inside India, startups will depend less on foreign servers. This is about building sovereign AI capacity for the country.
