We took a special trip to the 📍Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center for my birthday back in September!
It was such a fun day seeing all sorts of different animals!
AWCC is a sanctuary for injured and abandoned animals. During our time here, we saw firsthand the great care they take of these cuties.

GI#MayDay throwback! Last year, @utulsa students in our Conservation Principles course learned real-world water emergency strategies for protecting collections in a museum, library, or archive.
Let's break down some of these strategies:
1️⃣ Books can hold a lot of water! Stock your emergency kits with different kinds of drying materials (i.e., paper towels, cotton blotter).
2️⃣ Identify a clean, dry, secure space to set up as a "drying area" where the temperature and humidity can be controlled.
3️⃣ No single approach can address all damage. Response depends on how wet materials are and the resources available.

SUKenyan journalist Alvin Kaunda was in the middle of delivering a serious report on drought and wildlife conservation when an unexpected moment stole the show. Filming at the elephant nursery run by Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Nairobi, he was explaining how climate change, habitat loss, and poaching continue to threaten Kenya’s wildlife. As he spoke calmly to the camera, a curious orphaned baby elephant quietly approached from behind and began exploring him with its trunk—gently touching his shoulder, ear, and eventually his face.
