Try this— once scar is full closed and approved by your physician (nothing directly on scar until 6-8 weeks+) . 1️⃣ MOBILIZE— always progressing slowly in pressure applied from gentle to more agressive with the goal of layers moving on top of each other without restriction from scar tissue. In the early days through breath and then progressing. Start with a flat hand and then progressing in depth and range of motions from scoops to cross friction, circles and even picking up the scar/ gentle twisting motion. Increase effectiveness by combining in stretched positions while breathing into scar to mobilize deeper layers . 2️⃣ Deep Core Work- strengthening the deep muscles and pelvic floor will create a corset effect drawing the abdominals in and up to reduce diastasis and poor posture which pushes pressure down and out which can add to pouching effect . 3️⃣ Fluid Management: learning some simple lymphatic massage techniques can help with the disruption that occurs through surgery. By stimulating the lymphatic system and moving fluid, you can reduce the feeling of trapped fluid above/ overhang. Staying hydrated is also key! . C-Section rates are constantly rising with very little talk about the long term effects of major abdominal surgery. It’s so important now more than ever to talk about the effects of this surgery on your internal tissues and healing. 6 years ago I had no idea scar therapy was even a thing, if I had known about it, I’m not sure if it is something I would have prioritised in that moment, but at least I would have been making a fully informed decision. And that’s exactly what women need; to be informed on what they can do or who they can access to support their post partum bodies. Once you get the green light, work with practitioners for scar therapy and implement gentle movement like Pilates to keep your tissues fluid. p.s. I would be careful and cautious who you go to for help, there are practitioners out there claiming to do Mummy MOTs without the correct training. Here are Jordan’s words - It’s funny how many people think a C-section means I somehow “skipped” the hard part. As if I walked into the hospital, ordered a baby like takeout, and strolled out untouched. Meanwhile… I pushed. I labored. I did every single thing my body was asked to do - until it couldn’t anymore. And then I had to make a decision no mom is ever prepared to make in the middle of all that pain and fear. But sure, tell me again how I “took the easy way out.” I’ve heard it all: “Must be nice…” “Lucky you didn’t have to finish pushing.” “Well at least you didn’t really give birth.” And honestly? Say something enough times and it creeps in. It starts to feel like people think my birth story is somehow less. Like the way she came into this world gets to define how much I count as a mom. But here’s what those comments ignore: I pushed un-medicated AND I got cut open. I did both kinds of hard. I faced the fear of things not going how I planned. I went through the heartbreak of feeling like I couldn’t do it - all while doing absolutely everything I could. There is nothing “easy” about making a split-second decision during labor and then recovering from major surgery while caring for a newborn. So if anyone wants to call me “lucky,” cool - come try standing up for the first time after a C-section when you STILL feel like you need to push and your insides are arguing with gravity. Here’s the truth: I didn’t fail. I didn’t quit. I didn’t take a shortcut. I did exactly what I had to do to bring her here safely. You can start gently touching the skin as early as 2 days post c-sections. As the scab heals you can be a little more aggressive with the scar. You should continue to touch your scar and skin around the scar just to help bring blood flow to the area. 👐 BUT we also want to LOAD those ab muscles again and strengthen the core muscles. 🙋🏻‍♀️I’m over a year postpartum so @physio.rx is making sure I feel good and is targeting strengthening with: 🎯rotational movements 🎯front loading movements 🎯hanging core movements based on my sport of choice Here are examples of these strengthening exercises 👇🏼 ✅Russian twists ✅Planks ✅Superman into hanging L leg raises fit check: @womensbest #csection #cesareansection #physicaltherapy #pelvicfloorphysicaltherapy #corerehab #abexercises #csectionrecovery #csectionscar #csectionabs #absafterbabies #absaftercsection
