Ecovative memanfaatkan myselium dari jamur yang memiliki tekstur yang seperti dengan styrofoam tapi lebih cepat terurai karena merupakan bahan yang biodegradable Pertama jamur akan dikembangkan dengan memanfaatkan limbah tongkol jagung dan serbuk kayu sebagai media tumbuh jamur. Media tumbuh akan dimasukkan ke dalam cetakan dengan beraneka ragam bentuk. Jamur myselium akan tumbuh dalam jangka waktu 10 hari Selanjutnya produk jamur sudah dapat digunakan. Produk ini lebih berat dan kuat dibandingkan dengan styrofoam pada umumnya. Ecovative bisa terurai bahkan hanya dalam sebulan dalam kondisi composting. Ecovative telah memproduksi sekitar 100 ton jamur per tahun. Selain membuat styrofoam, Ecovative juga mengembangkan jamur untuk menjadi bahan pengganti daging ataupun membuat jamur menjadi pengganti kulit.
