RUThis collagraph print was inspired by the landscape seen while walking a bridleway that climbs up to Moel Famau Country Park in North Wales. It was bitterly cold, the ground was muddy, the sky was very still and heavy, I saw scarcely a single bird up on the top but it was great to be out exploring a new path! I made a couple of quick drawings and took photographs as a reference for when making the printing plate.
I noticed gorse bordering the path at the starting point and collected some dried stems, which I used in the collagraph plate. Otherwise I have used card, carborundum and texture paste. The plate has been inked intaglio and relief and printed on Fabriano Tiepolo paper.
‘Nant’ is Welsh and translates as stream. The path I was walking dipped down to cross the stream before climbing again to higher ground.
