Daily struggle of forest guards… As tourists, we admire tiger sightings and wildlife moments with excitement and joy. But the reality behind these forests is very different. Forest guards, often with very limited resources, dedicate their lives to protecting wildlife — sometimes at the risk of their own lives. This video was captured by one of our guests during a safari. While on route, they noticed a suspicious motorbike movement. Sensing the situation, the forest guard immediately shifted into the safari vehicle to respond quickly. About 10–15 minutes later, a tiger appeared in the same area and was seen curiously observing the bike. Such moments remind us that wildlife conservation is not easy. It runs on courage, alertness, and pure devotion of the people who protect these forests every day. Credit - @ravindra_ranthambhore Respect for our forest staff.

But Forest Guards supported by @thewcs have forcefully evicted them from their land, to make it into a tiger reserve. The irony is there are tigers there because the Jenu Kuruba know how to look after them. Now many Jenu Kuruba are living ‘miserable lives’ and the tigers don’t have their best guardians protecting them.

Treibor Suchen, the General Secretary of the Jaintia Students' Union has called on the Conrad Sangma-led government to set up a police outpost at Mukroh “since it is near to Assam.” Speaking to EastMojo on the day six people lost their lives following an altercation not too far from the Assam-Meghalaya border, Suchen also opposed the shutting down of mobile internet services in 7 districts. “That is like shutting down the voices of the people, I would say,” Suchen opined. Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma, whose party is an ally of the BJP, complained that the Assam police and forest guards “entered Meghalaya and resorted to unprovoked firing." Assam Police officials, however, asserted that the truck was intercepted in the West Karbi Anglong district of the state by a forest department team and a mob from Meghalaya had later attacked the forest guards and policemen from the state, which led to firing by the Assam side to bring the situation under control. Five of the six killed at Mukroh village in West Jaintia Hills district were Meghalaya residents and one is an Assam Forest guard, Sangma said. The Meghalaya CM announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased from his state. The Assam government too said that it will provide Rs 5 lakh to the families of each deceased as compensation. Makinde Confirms Terrorists Attack, Killing of Forest Guards in Oyo Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has confirmed the terrorists’ attack and killing of five forest guards by suspected bandits in the state. @goldmynetv has earlier reported that the bandits had stormed the National Park Office at Oloka village, opening fire at the forest guards. While the total number of casualties was initially unconfirmed, Makinde in a statement issued on Wednesday on his Facebook page confirmed the death of five personnel. According to the governor, preliminary investigation revealed the attack was a cross-border attack carried out by the bandits. While mourning the demise of the personnel, Makinde urged residents of the border community to remain calm and corporate with security agencies currently working to address the incident. The statement read; “Earlier today, there was a criminal attack by bandits at the National Park Office, Oloka Village which resulted in the death of five National Park Service Forest Guard Officers. “This is a devastating loss of the lives of personnel in the course of carrying out their lawful duties. May their souls rest in peace. “Preliminary investigations by the security agencies indicate that this was a cross-border attack carried out by bandits. “The security agencies are already working together to address this incident and seek the support of residents in the area to cooperate with them in their intelligence gathering. “Let me appeal to residents of Oyo State especially those in Oriire LGA and other LGAs along our borders, to remain calm as the security agencies have restored normalcy and deployed more personnel to the area. “Our administration will leave no stone unturned to respond decisively to prevent a recurrence of such attacks.”
