ERFor Your Consideration – Best Live Action Short Film
THE PROFESSIONAL PARENT
A loving mother willing to cross moral boundaries, by day she works in a grocery store, and by night she prostitutes herself to secure a better life for her biological child. Her intentions seem sincere, yet as the story unfolds, her hidden racism comes to light, and Ingrid transforms into an anti-heroine.
The film is not only about professional parenting, but also about moral choices within a system that offers few alternatives. It is a story that reveals how society truly functions, how people who believe they are not racist often expose their prejudices in everyday life. The film also reflects on how inflation and poverty push families into situations where morality becomes a luxury. It is a sad and harsh reality, not only in Slovakia.
With the film Professional Parent, I wanted to reach out to people who may find themselves in a similar struggle, to remind them that moral boundaries and a clear conscience are stronger than the hardships they will face.
The film THE PROFESSIONAL PARENT @professional.parent was directed, produced, and written by Slovak filmmaker Erik Jasaň @erik.jasan and the film was co-produced by Romanian producer Marian Crisan, who won the Palm d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008.
The film has received more than 15 awards, was screened in over 30 countries, and shown at more than 70 festivals. It was included in the official selections of festivals such as:
TIFF - Tirana International Film Festival 🇦🇱
Balinale - Bali International Film Festival 🇮🇩
HollyShorts Film Festival 🇺🇸
Lebu International Film Festival 🇨🇱
Odense International Film Festival 🇩🇰
Huesca International Film Festival 🇪🇸

It won several awards, including:
* Best International Film - New York Shorts International Film Festival (a Canadian Screen Award–qualifying festival) 🇺🇸
