Think of DNA as a parts list for your body. It describes how to build essential components for our cells like RNAs and proteins. But here’s the tricky thing—different cells use different parts, and we don’t fully understand how that changes in different states of health and disease. That’s what we’re working on. Using AI, we’re building virtual cell models to predict how every cell in the human body will behave —taking us one step closer to understanding the body’s ‘instructions’ and paving the way for better health solutions. #ScienceExplained #Genomics #science #biology #research

Ever been in a situation where you’ve hardly been bothered by a cold, but your friend has it really rough? It could be due to genetic differences in our DNA affecting how our immune systems detect and fight off infections. Get nerdy about #genomics!

Come with me to the FESTIVAL OF GENOMICS & BIODATA, hosted by @frontlinegenomics 🧬 💻 It was my 3rd time attending and as my network grows I really see the value even more of bringing the community together for such a broad event, targeting a wide audience across different disciplines in biological and medical research, translation and application! Hosted at the Excel in London, this FREE (for the majority of attendees) 2 day event has both keynote lectures, broad audience style talks across many themes, discussion sessions, workshops, poster zones, career zones and more! This is the place to be for catching up with old colleagues, hunting out people who work at your dream job location, running into virtual connections, and making new contacts in both academia and industry alike. For anyone hunting for a job tickets are free and I would highly recommend putting this one in your calendar. It’s a community meet up. It’s great. And I’ll see you there next year! #FOG2025 #FestivalOfGenomics2025 #genomics

Here’s how. | EoB Ch1, NanoRooms How these molecular machines make life as we know it possible, yourgenome From DNA to protein - 3D, Clockwork Eukaryotic Transcription, National Geographic Time-Lapse: Watch Flowers Bloom Before Your Eyes, Ribosome Studio The Sodium-Potassium Pump Beavan et al., 2025. Specialized ribosomes: integrating new insights and current challenges. "The ribosome is a multi-subunit complex normally composed of approximately 80 ribosomal proteins (RPs) and four rRNAs (five in Drosophila melanogaster). One of the first indications that ribosomes could be heterogeneous was reported in the 1980s, where 5S rRNA variants were identified in Xenopus. owever, whether these early-identified variant forms of rRNA were actually incorporated into ribosomes, and whether this had any effect on their function, remained unclear. Recent innovations in mass spectrometry, Ribo-Seq and direct-RNA sequencing approaches have enabled numerous examples of both ribosomal protein and rRNA heterogeneity to be described in diverse model organisms, tissues and cell types under different physiological conditions (e.g. developmental and stress)... Putative examples of specialization span eukaryotes, from plants and animals, to fungi and single-celled ‘protists’. The most parsimonious explanation for the distribution is that at least some elements of specialization existed in the last eukaryotic common ancestor (LECA)...Modes of specialization implicated include paralogue inclusion (ancestral and derived cases), RNA methylation and post-translational modification of ribosomal proteins." #protein #ribosome #genomics #translation #biochemistry

We’re diving into TranscriptFormer, a powerful AI model to explore cell biology. Developed by a team at CZI (including James Pearce here), TranscriptFormer is trained on 112 million cells across 12 species. That’s a huge amount of data, so this type of model gives researchers a concise, AI-based interactive representation of its knowledge to more efficiently explore biology. For example, this AI model could help scientists: 🔬 Predict whether findings in model organisms will translate to humans 💻 Run “in silico” (computer-based) experiments to speed up research 🧬 Decode the genetic language of cells 💡 Ultimately, build a virtual cell model to better understand human health 🧬 Visit the blog to learn more (link in the usual place), or drop your questions below 👇 #AIML #AI #biology #genomics #TranscriptFormer #innovation
