I’m struggling a little bit OG. I’ve been trying to keep it together for Mom and the family but internally I’m all over the place. I guess that’s normal on the grieving process. I’m not mad at God or anything, in fact I love God even more for how faithful he is. I remember praying at the hospital just for him to allow us to get you back home. I remember praying that my siblings and family could make it out to see you one last time. I remember praying that when it’s time for you to pass away, you go peacefully. And I remember praying that God gives me the strength and peace needed to get through this. And that’s EXACTLY what he did. I was blessed with aN AMAZING FATHER. Some can’t say the same and I’m so grateful for that blessing. I just hope I can continue to make you proud. I want to continue to reflect who you were - not perfect, but a man of respect, hard work, integrity and someone who always put family first. You are the definition of a wealthy man. Not in money, or fame or status as many would want. But wealth in terms of a family that loved you unconditionally, REAL friends, REAL impact in your community and respect and reverence for God. I pray that I can continue your legacy pops. I hope you’re able to see what a great Job you did while you were here on earth. You won your race and it’s forever an honor to be your son. I just just miss you man. Rest easy, I got us. Love you. *this video is for the family, friends and loved ones of our family* God bless you and thank you all for your continued support and prayers. 🙏🏾

I’ve been walking through the Alzheimer’s journey with my mom for six years now. Every time she progresses, every hard appointment, every piece of her independence that slips away, it feels like the grieving process starts all over again. It’s a strange place to live. Loving someone who is still here, while slowly mourning who they used to be. We try to hold both. The heartbreak and the goodness. The sadness and the joy that still shows up in unexpected ways. When you know time is limited, really and truly limited, you become more intentional with it. You slow down. You stay present. You make the memories. You capture the moments because you understand how fragile they are. This is anticipatory grief. And this is us choosing love anyway.

Thank you to everyone who left a comment on my last post… they were filled with prayers, and love towards us, and all the families who lost their home. Many of you shared a personal story of your own loss and grief…thank you❤️‍🩹. When we share experiences with each other, we feel less alone. Losing our home has been an extremely humbling and painful experience for me. Every few days, I drive up to what’s left .. I guess it’s part of my grieving process, like visiting a headstone. Every time I visit I’m able to look a little closer at the rubble and find little pieces… a finial, a section of the wrought iron handrail, Leila’s Juliette balcony, tile from Lucas and Leila’s bathroom, the plaster detail around our front door. All a reminder of how much love we had for our home, and the memories. I’ll be sifting through the rubble soon hoping to find little things. I’m both ok and not ok… but as I try my best to find gratitude, I’m so grateful for the beautiful years I spent in our home. There’s light somewhere ahead, I can’t see it yet but I know it’s there. For now, I’m off to visit Lucas and Leila in Europe, wrap them in love, and create new memories and photos❤️

I recorded this for my grieving process. I hope one day I will feel better and stronger. Maybe not healed from losing my mother… but feel stronger than today. I know some of you can relate this. I have received hundreds of messages from across the country, from which I got lots of prayers and gained strength from you who also experience grief from your loved ones. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Grief is not a sign of weakness. It is not a lack of faith. It is just the price of love. Even grief needs awareness, because not everyone understands. ❤️ #mygrievingjourney #grief #griefjourney #griefjournaling #griefsupport #griefawareness

You shouldn’t go on life without thinking about this even for a moment. A very important discussion that we should all consider especially at midlife and if you have kids to care for. Not an easy topic, but an important one. We all fear death, even though we know it’s coming for us eventually. We can prepare better and make it easier for our families to navigate the grieving process. @mymaybank @khoohsuchuang @domore.today #expatmom #kualalumpur #midlife #maybank

SCIENCE SUPPORTED TOOL FOR DEALING WITH GRIEF • - My guest on the Huberman my podcast out now is Dr. Mary Francis O’Connor. She’s a world expert in the neuroscience and psychology of grief. We discussed the grieving process and ways to move through it more effectively. - We acknowledge that everyone grieves differently, and yet there are times when it can be crippling, and she explained how being in a state of crippling grief is a major health hazard. She doesn’t raise this to compound the difficulty, but rather to draw awareness for people around someone that is grieving. - What helps is to grieve intensely at certain periods of time, but to still maintain functionality in life. This can be exceedingly hard for some to do. - Most people nowadays are probably not surprised to learn that our emotions exist in our entire nervous system. That means in our brain, but also our body. - People in a state of grief hold enormous amounts of tension in their body. A study from Dr. O’Connor’s laboratory showed that self-directed progressive muscle relaxation (for which there are many protocols online at zero cost), significantly improves symptoms of grief, which is not to say it dissociates us from our grief; it’s about feeling your feelings, but not letting them overtake you in ways that are destructive. - We cover this and many other topics related to healthy grieving on the podcast. - We will all experience grief in life, likely many times over. Learning how to move through grief effectively is important. - To find the episode go to hubermanlab.com. It is linked there in all formats and timestamped in detail so you can navigate quickly to the topics most of interest to you. - Meanwhile, if you have any questions or comments about this topic or episode or guests or topics that you’d like me to cover on future Huberman Lab podcasts, please put those in the comment section below this post. - And as always, thank you for your interest in science! - @hubermanlab @stanford.med @stanford @doctormfoconnor @uazscience @uarizona - #neuroscience #science #ciencia #neurociência #grief #somatic #relax #muscle #tense #peace #data #widow #loss #renewal

One of the best journey’s of my life was to the country of Bhutan with dear friend @kevinjamescarroll - I was still deep in the grieving process of losing my son- ( I’m holding his picture) Kevin guided us with daily chanting and mantra, sometimes I played the singing bowls with him, and we explored this sacred land- I learned so much - and there were miracles- Bhutan brought me a deeper communion with my son and helped me release more layers of sadness. Being a singer I have always loved learning languages and communicating, and so appreciate how music crosses all barriers and connects us through our hearts. Music is the language of our hearts. This moment was unexpected and so funny for us- I was doing my best to learn the prayers in this joyful man‘s native tongue, but there came a moment where I could not keep up with him… my mind was focused, yet my tongue could not manage the foreign words… we laughed. Always remember music is the great connector, taking us beyond language. With music there is no separation- there is Unity, there is Joy, and there is Love. #musicmedicine #innerpeace #healingjourney #healing #sacred #bhutan #prayer #mantra #heart #sadness #chanting #communication
